WOWKit used in this installation

WDK-INT-1

Which includes the following items:

Decoder
Motherboard
Speaker Kit

This installation documentation is for the Bowser C630M. This installation uses the WDK-INT-1 Kit which includes the IB-MB2, WOW121-Diesel decoder, and INT-SH1 with 2-pin speaker connector. This installation also uses the 6-Pin JST INT-WH connector harness. This installation was performed by TCS.

The Bowser C630M prior to installation.
Begin this installation by pulling the screws on each coupler as highlighted in red above and then removing the coupler boxes as well as the spring cover. Grasp the sides and each end of the shell and gentle pull out to release and lift it from the frame.
Shown with the shell removed. Snip the plastic wire tie to release the wires, remove the four screws indicated above in red and unplug the wire connectors from the board. Remove the board from the frame, taking note of the wiring layout.
With the original lighting board removed.
Attach the new IB-MB1 motherboard with the same screws and preliminarily plug in the wiring connections.
Clip off the original lighting connector plug as shown above to facilitate wiring the lighting for the IB-MB1 motherboard.
To allow correct connection and individual functions from the IB-MB1 motherboard, in this installation it was necessary to separate the wiring path by cutting a trace on the original front lighting circuit board as shown as red/blue stripes in the above photo.
The leads soldered to the front (left) and back (right) lighting boards shown above.
Splice these lighting leads into the new connector and plug this connector onto the IB-MB1 according to the included wiring diagram.
Insert the 35mm x 16mm speaker into the INT-SH1 enclosure and mount this assembly to the frame with the provided screws.
Plug the speaker connector into the motherboard. We secured the wires at this end of the locomotive to the frame using Kapton tape.
If your speaker enclosure installation covers the portholes on the enclosure, we recommend adding new port hole(s) similar to the original porting. Be sure that the new portholes are the same size and amount of the original and are vented freely into the locomotive We have found introducing a port of the correct size greatly increases the volume and sound quality of the installation. Too much or too little porting decreases the sound quality.
Lastly, in order to keep the wires neat and prevent possible shorts, lace the wires into a bundle using lacing cord. You can now reassemble the shell and couplers and your WOWSound equipped Bowser C630M locomotive in ready to roll!

Important Soldering Tip

Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. Over time, the acidic properties of liquid or paste flux will begin eating away at the fiberglass PCB and will damage it. Use only Rosin-core solder or no-clean flux approved for electronics use.

TCS recommends the use of Kester "44" Sn63 Pb37, .015" diameter Rosin-core solder. Kester part number 24-6337-0007.

You can order this solder from the following retailers:
Digikey - PN:KE1110-ND
Techni-Tool - PN:488SO6775

Other solder tips

When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more than a 1/32 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder, the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire than half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
