This installation uses the following decoder:


This installation is for HO Scale Walthers Proto EMD GP60. This installation uses a TCS WOW101 and WAUX-KA4 Keep Alive® and 28mm speaker.

The Walthers Proto EMD GP60 with its shell on prior to installation.
First remove the coupler screws on each coupler box, as highlighted in red above, and remove the boxes.
Next, remove the two screws at the front of the chassis as highlighted in red above.
Locate the 4 screws as highlighted above under the fuel tank and remove these. Then gently grasp the shell on each side while lifting 
the ends outward to pull up and remove the shell from the chassis.
Remove the two screws highlighted above in red and disconnect the dummy plug and board.

Plug in the WOW101 decoder and secure it in place. In this installation, we used Kapton tape.
Using double-sided foam tape, attach the KA4 to the chassis frame underneath the front lighting assembly and plug the KA4 into the WOW101 decoder, 
stripping and tinning the speaker wires as needed to solder them to the speaker.
To finish out this installation and complete the WOWsound, this locomotive comes with a space in the frame to allow for a 28mm speaker. Remove the two 
screws on the front, left upright portion of the frame and this half plug will come out. Using hot melt glue, mount the wired speaker into this receiver.
Depending on the piece, it might be necessary to drill a feed hole or notch to allow for the wire path out of the speaker. 
Lastly, in order to keep the wires neat and prevent possible shorts, lace the wires into a bundle using lacing cord.
Your locomotive is now fully equipped with a WOW101 decoder, KA4 Keep Alive® and WOWsound.
Carefully replace the shell in reverse order of the removal steps, being careful to avoid any pinched wire to prevent shorts and you are ready to roll!

Important Soldering Tip

Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. Over time, the acidic properties of liquid or paste flux will begin eating away at the fiberglass PCB and will damage it. Use only Rosin-core solder or no-clean flux approved for electronics use.

TCS recommends the use of Kester "44" Sn63 Pb37, .015" diameter Rosin-core solder. Kester part number 24-6337-0007.

Other solder tips

When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more than a 1/32 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder, the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire than half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.

Lacing Cord

In order to keep the wires neat and prevent possible shorts, we recommend lacing the wires into a bundle using lacing cord. Lacing cord is a wax impregnated string used for wire bundling and making harnesses. There are many choices of lacing cord available from Digikey www.digikey.com
