This installation of TCS M1 Decoder is for HO Scale Walthers Proto 2000 SW9/1200 and was performed by A.G.

Here is a picture of the locomotive with its shell on prior to the TCS M1 decoder installation.
Gently remove the shell. The picture above shows the original light board prior to the TCS M1 decoder installation.
Here is a close-up of the 9-PIN JST Socket. Because of the fact that there is not enough room under the original light board to install the drop-In decoder, we decided to hardwire the M1.
The M1 Decoder prepared to be installed in the locomotive.
Unsolder all wires that are connected to the original light board as shown in the picture above.
Unscrew three Phillips screws and remove the original light board. Desolder the 9PIN JST harness with connector and place the original light board back on the chassis as shown above. Solder all wires the same way they were placed on the beginning of this installation. Take a look at the picture above for more details.
Solder TCS M1 Decoder to the 8 PIN markings on the board.

Important Soldering Tip

Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. Over time, the acidic properties of liquid or paste flux will begin eating away at the fiberglass PCB and will damage it. Use only Rosin-core solder or no-clean flux approved for electronics use.

TCS recommends the use of Kester "44" Sn63 Pb37, .015" diameter Rosin-core solder. Kester part number 24-6337-0007.

Other solder tips

When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more than a 1/32 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder, the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire than half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
